I’ve been a professional writer for over 20 years. My first book, the Rough Guide to India, was published in 1993, since when I’ve authored titles on destinations as diverse as the Scottish Highlands, Morocco and Corsica. My Insight Guide to Myanmar (Burma) was shortlisted in the ‘Guide Book of the Year’ category at the British Travel Awards in 2014. I’ve also written first editions for DK, Trailblazer and Berlitz.
A lot of my work has involved walking. In 2001, I spent three months exploring the mountains of Corsica on foot for a guide to the island’s long-distance footpaths. For the Ramblers a decade later, I researched and wrote a book of 50 walks around Britain that culminated in wonderful panoramas. Subsequently published as Great Views, it was read by around 120,000 people.
I’ve written for numerous magazines and newspapers, on subjects varied as leopard spotting in Rajasthan, trekking in the mountains of Kerala and a road trip in the north of Yunnan Province, China.
